Northern Light Infantry (NLI) regiment got appraisal from Chief of Army Staff
Leader is the one who has strong communication with his team and never keeps himself aside from his team members. In order to achieve success and reach the target, a leader has to lead from the front and has to keep his team alive by appreciating their efforts.
Pakistan Army is fighting terrorism and its leader, Chief of Army Staff, is keeping his team alive by being more interactive with soldiers and bucking up the troops. Soldiers on border want appreciation from their leaders and current Army Chief is giving frequent visits to his troops. For example, he spent Eid with troops in North Waziristan to raise the morale of soldiers of ZarbeAzb. Yesterday, on 24th September 2014, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif visited NLI regiment Gilgit and attended their annual commanding officers conference.
The Northern Light Infantry (reporting name: NLI) is a light infantry regiment in the Pakistan Army, based and currently headquartered in Gilgit, the capital of Gilgit–Baltistan. Along with many unified armed forces presence in the Northern Areas, the NLI has the primary ground operations responsibility of protecting the strategically important northern areas of Pakistan.
The majority of this regiment’s personnel come from native Gilgitis, Baltis, Brushos, Wakhis and Khowars. It was formed in 1971 with the amalgamation of the Northern Scouts along with its Scout wings: the Karakoram Scouts, Northern Scouts and Gilgit Scouts. The Northern Light Infantry was made a regular regiment of the Pakistan army after its performance in the Kargil War in 1999; prior to this it was a paramilitary force.
The NLI is deployed extensively in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan under the Force Commander Northern Areas (FCNA) and forms the bulk of the battalions under the Minimarg-based 80 Infantry Brigade, the Skardu-based 62 Infantry Brigade and the 323 Infantry Brigade at Siachen.
NLI is defending crucial borders of Pakistan and due to its importance Army Chief attended their annual commanding officers conference. On COAS arrival to Gilgit, Army Chief laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada of Gilgit, paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the defence of motherland.
COAS addressed the officers and soldiers of Northern light infantry NLI Regiment and praised the high state of morale, operational vigilance maintained by soldiers along the most challenging front line.
Later, General Raheel Sharif also met with war veterans, inquired about their well being and commended their services for the country. He also pinned badges to formally install Lieutenant General Ikram Ul Haq as new Colonel Commandant NLI Regiment.
The efficiency of fighting force increases when they get appraisal from their leader. Pakistan Army is successfully executing the operation ZarbEAzb. Yesterday, PAF fighter jets shelled numerous militant hideouts in Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency. As a result of that shelling, 13 militants were killed, while several were injured. Around 1200 militants have been killed in military operation against TTP i.e. ZarbEAzb.
