Implementation of NAP
Although the government constituted a federal counter-terrorism force on 26th December with immediate effect, still the recent Safoora attack on Ahmedis in Karachi raised questions on working and progress of National Action Plan. National Action Plan was implemented after APS Peshawar school attack when leadership of the nation stand united to wipe out terrorists and their hideouts.
Karachi’s Safoora attack took away 41 Pakistanis lives. It raised fingers on failure of administration and Sindh’s leadership. It was further revealed by statement given by Corps Commander Karachi Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar who held political leadership and weak civil administration responsible for Karachi’s unrest. He said that Karachi operation is completely apolitical, adding that it will continue without any discrimination.
Those who raise questions on National Action Plan dont know that working on NAP isnt done with true spirit as yet. It is not only job of Rangers to root out terrorism from Karachi, it is also job of political leadership, civil administration and judiciary too. NAP will be successful when all institutions will work together to root out terrorists from the country.
Hundreds of suspects have been arrested so far under National Action Plan. There is no need to repeat the figures here. But there is need to reveal the impact of NAP. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema recently said that National Action Plan (NAP) has decreased crime rate in Quetta. Addressing a press conference in Quetta’s CCPO office, he said that after the implementation of NAP police spirits are high and terrorism has significantly decreased in the provincial capital. On 15th May 2015, special Apex Committee meeting held at Corps Head Quarter Karachi to review progress of operations so far. Sindh’s political leadership along with administration officers attended that meeting along with COAS. The meeting ended up with the reiteration to implement NAP.
It is expected that NAP will not only root out terrorists from the country, but it will also root out extremism as strict action will also be taken against extremists.
